MONEY FOR GOOD CAUSES

Following on from a very successful event Lewes Smugglers Ltd (a company formed by the seven Lewes Bonfire Societies) are pleased to announce that the Lewes Platinum Jubilee Event held to commemorate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee on Saturday June 4th at Malling Books, Lewes raised £3,500 which will go to good causes in the Lewes Area. The charities or good causes have yet to be decided as it has been agreed that each of the seven Lewes Bonfire Societies will nominate a charity of their choice to each receive £500.00. Emma Penfold of the Lewes Jubilee Committee said, “We were only able to achieve this amazing figure thanks to the support of local businesses who sponsored the event and to Lewes Town Council for paying for the cost of the firework display” It is estimated that over 5000 people visited the event during the day and although bad weather meant a premature end, the firework display looked magnificent under the backdrop of thunder and lightning.
